Knock Sensor Repair

Knock sensor 1 wire is badly grazed, been fine for a while, now getting frequent errors on it, so need to fix it.

Now this is a screened cable, can I just cut and join the cable & screening and reinsulate, or do I have to maintain screening around the fix, if so how?

I've repaired one of these before, worked fine. Just used small, medium and large heat shrink to make sure it was watertight.

Might I add, someone else fitted it and routed the cable next the exhaust fanimold!  ;D

after repair, i wrapped mine in tinfoil, then heatshrinked....

Sorry to dive in on your thread boyz, but when the Knock Sensor has been either broken or chaffed through this puts on the EML right?

code 16 (bank 1/3/5) or 17 (2/4/6)

eml may not come on until revs get up a bit

The one I am thinking about was trapped behind the aux belt tensioner so crushed flat, but it didn't put on the EML light...
I fitted a Brand New Vx Knock Sensor which was routed properly not caught anywhere to find when the ignition was turned on the EML came on with like you say a code 16.

Very puzzled why with a broken knock sensor the EML didn't come on but when it was replaced with a new one the EMl did come on :-?

its an intermittant EML in this case.

Will have a look when I have a few hours ahead of me, access is not good, the fix is at the depth of the metal pipe that runs across the front.
