Getting an omega, some questions ablout the 2.0 mo
« on: 13 July 2009, 12:29:27 »

HI, i am thinking about getting an Omega.

Firstly i dont think i will be geting a v6 model for the following reasons:

1. 40k cam belt change
2. Economy
3. location of some sensors

But i was thinking of the 2.0 four cylinder petrol.
this is the X20SE engine, is it?

also, this might sound a bit strange, but is it possible to fit a C20LET engine ?
Thanks :P

The 4 pot engine also has a 40k cambelt interval.
Sensors on the v6 are just as easy some even easier than 4 pot to change.
As regards fuel economy there is not much difference  between 2.0/2.2 and a 2.5 v6. The v6 is generaly more reliable if looked after properly and rarely blows a head gasket.

V6's are a far better bet :y

I'm only sorry I didn't get one :-/

But is it easier to change the cam belt on the 2.0 ?

also what about insurance?

Cambelt on a v6 requires more complicated locking tool than a 4 pot. Although there is, I believe a fantastic dvd on how to do a v6 belt available on here :y Although I haven't got one.

Insurance depends greatly on your own circumstances, so I couldn't tell you.

Im sure there was a member in the gallery that head a c20let in but apparently there was a lot of chassis work to make it fit for rear wheel drive.

Omegas are four discs, brakes are very good IMO with plenty of stopping power for a car of its size.

As said
it dont matter if youve got a 4 pot or v6 every 40K is cam belt change.
mpg is better with a diesel than a petrol but dont forget the mig has 1680 kg ( 1,7 t ) in weight so a smaller motor ie 2.0 will drink a lot more than you would think.

A V6 engine is not that bad to work on, some jobs can be a pita but its the same as a 4 pot.

as for insurance have a look at www.confused.com and put in the different sized engines you might be surprised.

I would say get a V6 you wont regret it. :y

For the money they are, just go buy a V6 and enjoy, if its not for you sell it again any loss will only equal a good night out. Have fun ;D

As mentioned...Get a V6.

I asked a neighbour down the road who has a 2.2
"Do you ever wish you had a V6"

"Every bloody day" was his reply.

The 2.0 and the 2.2's are vastly underpowered given the cars weight. Sure.. the V6's are a little more less economical overall but still the only way to go.

I'm sure that the vast number of Omega owners with the smaller engines would dearly want a V6. Don't know of any that would want to downsize their engines....and thats for a reason. ??

You will regret buying a 2.0 very shortly thereafter.

I will defend 2.2's they are smooth for a 4pot given lots of oil changes, they will get there just not as quickly.

However if i was buying again, i would without question buy a 3.2!

Cambelt changes are same internal
there is not much in it mpg wise, mother tunnies averages 26mpg, mine 27mpg!

My 2.2 is worth peanuts, and has proven ultra reliable, so until its killed or died, its staying.

The power to weight ratio always amazes me...its normally all that the Top Gear trio go on about.

In terms of MPG it would seem that there is very little difference between the 2.0/2.2s and the various V6's...as long as the V6's are NOT raced about. BUT right there is the point...you CAN seriously race the V6's about...with the 4 pots...it takes an age and you're missing the huge roar of a Vauxhall V6...worth the extra fuel in its own right IMHO. Mind you..its easy for me to say...at 40p per mile....my company ends up paying for all my fuel.
