Seems the metal epoxy putty i used to seal the rust hole and leak in my oil sump is holding up pretty good so far but i want to give it just a bit of extra protection so scouting around on hlafords and found this http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_179607_langId_-1_categoryId_165594

Do you guys think its worth just giving the repaired area a covering of it?

Wouldn't use it on the sump due to the heat

I would not use it either, in fact I would be on the lookout for another sump, in my experience, when a sump starts to leak, it is ready to spring leaks all over the underside, so it is time to change it. I had one leaking on a Mk 1 Astra, it had gone porous, and kept "Bleeding" oil from all over. A coat of Hammerite would do no harm for extra protection.

Dont have the cash for a new sump or the time to get it fitted due to way too much overtime in work, the garage i had look at it said the engine needs to be lifted to take the sump off and would take 2 days , so at the moment looking for a few quick fixes so using the epoxy putty and was thinking the product from halfords would add extra protection but if it bursts into flames from the sump heat might not be worth the risk lol

also you have to remember the putty will expand and contract at a different rate to the sump so after a while it will start leaking again.

Sods law is that the putty will crack out when you doing motorway speed and the first thing you know about it is when the oil light comes on......then its to late

Have a look round on the site there must be one of the breakers will a good sump.

Yes you will need to lift the motor but its not a two day job

that quick steel putty is pretty much the same stuff ive used on the sump

I was wondering though if this putty stuff holds and theres no sign of leaking and i decided to leave it like it is for a few months more, would it fail the MOT if they saw the bottom of the sump fixed in this way?
