Also the bolt that holds the tensioner is loose, is that normal?

Surly it's clockwise .....  :-/ to slacken the belt enough for removal.

  Do you mean the 2 torx bolts that hold the whole unit on or the centre nut on the pulley itself?

The bolt that hold the tensioner pulley in place seems loose, it moves back and forward.

  If that's the case it sounds like the innards have broken up so will need a new tensioner :(.

I hang my head in shame guys!  ::) I used the ratchet to pull the tensioner across, how simple!

Yeah fired her up and took it for a drive.  No strange noises just the nice v6 note. Happy as a pig in shite!  8-)
