cutting out and other probs. PLEASE HELP
« on: 08 August 2009, 16:18:36 »

been out for a long run today for the first time since buying my 3.0 elite auto and ive had a few probs.

1, after 20mins on the motorway it started cutting out for a second or two causing kick-down into 3rd.
did this a lot with cruise on and off and even threw the EML on a couple of times.
on the way home it started again, 20mins into the trip.
did,nt play up on the slow stuff, just on the motorway.

2, the dash display kept showing "check oil level" and thats fine if a bit mucky.

3, ive noticed that theres a small amount of smoke from the dip-stick tube when running with the stick out.
is this most likely a blocked breather system?

PLEASE HELP, i dont want to get p***ed off with this car  :-/

i,m getting there now.
38 and 98 are O2 sensors 1+2 voltage low, whats this mean and could they be old saved codes, not whats happening now?
can you clear the codes to see if they come back?

another idea, could it be a dodgey tank of fuel?
seems strange BOTH lambda sensors showing faults at the same time does,nt it?

12 Is start / finish of reading.
38 O2 sensor 1 circuit voltage  low
98 O2 sensor 2 circuit voltage low
I would say its a prob with your lambda sondas,
Have you serviced the car lately ie new plug, oil and filters?

but what would cause both sensors to have intermittant faults at the same time?
also what does "voltage low" actually mean? and will there be permanent damage?
its as though the lambda,s saw a spike in the emissions and just shut down for a second.

has anyone come accross anything like this before?

i think i,m sorted now.
no longer getting the "check oil level warning" topped it up as it was just below 1/2.

and the cutting out seems to have been a bad tank of fuel.
ran the old out, filled back up and done a 60 mile thrash, had a couple of tiny hick-ups but 99% better.

just need to do the breathers now as ive got a small amount of smoke from the dip-stick pipe with the stick out.

cheers guys  :y

Are your breathers clean?

probably not, theres loads of gunk in the 4 rubber pipes near the bulkhead anyway.
and the n/s rocker cover is leaking too so i,ll get it all done together.
