as Andy says, system should realise it needs to release air, should get an audible "pshhh" when when it lowers the car. You could release the air line on the shock body for now, and then re fit it, should then pump to the correct, now unloaded, hight. (if you do this it would be wise to jack the car as i am not sure if the car will drop suddenly with your arms in the wheel arch. Better safe.)
You could also play with the level arm on the hight sensor box by levering off the plastic rose joint with a screw driver and moving the arm by hand see if that wakes it up. Move arm up to raise, down should lower the car. May be the level box at fault, located near(next to) dif drivers side on mine. 2 by 3 inch ish box with right angle arm to wire kinked rod with black plastic rose joint on each end to suspension arm. (again advise caution when under the car, when working normally the self level moves very slowly, but yours aint working normally so beware any sudden drops, unlikely though i would think?) ignition needs be on for pump to work but if the pump runs too long it will flatten the battery, trust me, so engine running unless your under the car or need to hear what its doing.
