Earth strap - front of engine (2.6)

I've got what appears to be a snapped earth strap on the passengerside front of the engine, bolted from there to the chassis - the 3.0 parts car doesn't seem to have it... is it important?

A weak point of the bigger engine Omega's with all the 'kit' was there was that it only has one 'major' earth (just below the battery) so owners have fitted additional 'earth' braids, seem to work, causes no problems.
