does knackered dispack have to 'look' knackered?
« on: 16 August 2009, 14:45:42 »

hi all

the car has been misfiring, seems to be running on 5 cylinders, most notable when i hit 50mph, 4th gear. anyway, i did a cam cover gasket change, changed the plugs and changed the leads. still misbehaving.

i decided it must be the dispack so i took the old one out but it looks in tip top nick and i wondered if a faulty dispack has to look faulty? i've seen others on here that appear to have split or worse, but mine seems perfectly in tact. so can a dispack be faulty, even if it looks ok?

i did get a replacement but its the wrong one, typical, so for now have put everything back together awaiting the answer to this question!

thanks in advance.  :y

Not to sure but I would say a faulty dispack does not have to look faulty to have a fault,
have you checked for any codes? ( paperclip test )
might not be anything to do with the dispack.

Suspect disspack could look ok but still be b*ggered.  Faulty disspack wont throw a fault code to ecu.

my mate plugged in his snap-on fault reader to reset the airbag light after the recent mot and it didnt throw up any fault codes other than the airbag so it makes sense that the dispack wouldn't show up on there.

out of interest, any idea why dispack wouldn't register a fault code?

thanks for the advice re the dispack looking ok but being faulty. i did wonder as so many examples of faulty dispacks look shot to bits from the outside whereas mine looks ok.

i note that new the bosch ones are very expensive, even on fleabay new they are about 80 quid (and about 150 from the stealer!). aftermarket ones are way less expensive coming in about 40 quid. are these a no go area? can anyone advise as it seems aftermarket ones are about the same price as a second hand one...  :-/
