Hi sorry this issue isnt for an omega, my friend hasnt much money, well none, and on her vauxhall astra the egr valve is showing a fault code, i have taken it off to have a look, havent got any carbon cleaner, used wd40, i think the stem may be jammed with the carbon,apparently this happens to the egr valve, she is trying to sell the car,hence no money but would like to remove the fault code, any ideas on how to free the pin that moves up and down via the motor it is attached too. i think it is jammed or could the motor have issues ? . I detached the egr valve and started the engine but the pin/stem doesnt move. any ideas would be appreciated, thanks :-/

Can you move it by hand any? If not it stands a good chance it's too far gone. I've used oven cleaner in the past to de-coke one only to find it was fubarred anyway

You could also try using paint thinner.
Read somewhere that another OOF member poured 3 times paint thinner in EGR and left it for a while.
It cured it

Buy a blanking plate from vx for a couple of quid.

I'm guessing that the car is an Astra G. Later cars with the same engines apparently don't even have an EGR. SWMBO's Astra G has had the software from a later car installed so doesn't even know it has one!

No the pin/shaft wont move, you cant get anything on it to try and move as it is in its closed possition.

If the car has & still knows it has an EGR it needs leaving connected, like on your Omega. It won't get rrid of the EML either.

It will need to be left plugged in mate,and you will need the eml resetting,and that should sort you out.

Not always andy,i have had problems in the past,when the eml needed resetting,because when i fixed it,it dident go out till it was reset.

I think it should go away on it's on after some 20 ignitions (error codes are stored for 20 ign I read somewhere).

just a additional question, when the egr valve is removed from position,still connected to electrics, when you turn the key should the pin move,shaft,only it doesnt, im thinking is it stuck in closed position or could the motor be faulty ? is there any way to tell,
