Auxilary belt tensioner
« on: 26 October 2009, 15:39:02 »

Hi Guys
My auxilary belt tensioner bearing has collapsed :'(  (2.5 v6). Is there a simple way of replacing this? Looks simple enough but I don't want to undo any bolts incase something else falls off. Is there anything that I have to watch out for? :-?

If you use a 15mm spanner on the bolt on the front of the tensioner, turn it clockwise against the spring to release the tension in the belt, then ease the belt off, and unscrew the bolt anti-clockwise the tensioner wheel and bearing will slide off.

New wheel (yes, you can buy just the wheel without the whole tensioner assembly, but often VX parts departments claim you can't) and reassembly is the reverse of the above procedure. Make sure you do tighten the bolt. You'll need to turn it fully against the spring and then tighten it.

Belt is still attached and the engine will run, although not driving the alty etc. Could still see rotation direction etc I suppose. ::) Pulley has completely collapsed and the belt has stayed in position although not driving anything.  ;D

But I will do drawing just incase.  :y
