Why two fuses?
« on: 08 November 2009, 00:47:02 »

having trouble with the interior lamps keep coming on on their own hence cant lock the doors as the light comes on and sets off the alarm (have posted in another section)
reading the manual it says there are TWO fuses for the courtesy lamp No.12 and No.20 i have pulled No.12 thinking if the light cant come on i can lock the car without the alarm going off wrong the alarm still goes off bit fed up now of not knowing whats going on but why??? are there 2 x fuses for the courtesy lamp and why do they work numerous other things like indicators etc etc

Basically Geoff i cant get my fingers in to get the bulbs out ((yet)) which is why i pulled the fuse in the end.
Thing is that fuse has the indicators on it as well however i locked the doors and guess what the alarm went off.
The light didnt come on as i had pulled the fuse but the alarm still went off so its possible its just the alarm thats at fault then again if i put the fuse back in the light will come on again
Anyone want to buy a 2000 CDX 2.5V6

The alarm doesn't take it's signal from the bulb, it comes from the door switches going to ground when the door is open. So taking the bulb out would make no difference at all. I'd be checking that each of the door switches work indipendantly and they aren't full of water, which would give a false ground signal. Also check the wiring behind each door switch for bare/stripped wires.

As an afterthought, if you want to lock it without setting the alarm.... Reach round from the drivers rear door and lock the drivers door with the button. Use the remote to unlock :y

If your going to do that make sure you have your keys in your hand you would not want to lock them in the car  :y

Get a decent code reader on it and see what's setting the alarm off.
If you fancy a ride over Bolton sometime I could have a look with the "My Naff Code Reader" for you.

Surely you cant think that the courtesy light is the issue?.....its only a light, it does not turn itself on and off.

The fact that the lights come on and the alarm goes off is a clue.....check the conenction to the door switches to see if the wires behind are shorting out anywhere.  :y

On my facelift the nearside/passenger reading light was not working.  Duff lamp, thought I....

I removed the whole assembly from the roof lining and swapped out the lamp for a new one.  No change...  Swapped it for the working drivers side - passenger still duff, drivers side still working.....

You still with me?   ;D

Turns out that the circuit board was very 9and I mean very) slightly away from its base on one side so that the soft touch button was not making properly.  Once all reseated, light working fine once again.

So, possible that its a loose connection of some sort?  Might be worth taking it out and rechecking/reseating all the bits and bobs...

As to the alarm being set off, some very ealy systems were voltage drop systems, as I recall, trigerred by the opening of the door and the courtesy lamp coming on.  Dont think that something as old as that would still be in use on the Omega though??

It does state in the manual about the alarm being triggered by voltage drop eg the light coming on anyway i have solved the problem now (sort of) thanks to welung who always seems to come up trumps whenever i have a problem as he says reach in from the back door
bulbs out = no light coming on whilst driving esp. at night it can be dangerous
shut doors from rear = no alarm going off
S O R T E D Thanks Welung - - - - -and others
