2.2 erratic idling
« on: 06 November 2009, 14:55:08 »

Hi,
my 2.2 has just started erratic idling/stalling whilst driving. Disconnected the MAF and all is fine. No eng mgt light when connected. Maybe a daft question but is this MAF definitely knackered? Are there any serious consequences of driving whilst disconnected until I can get a new one? Thanks in advance for any help.

Negative from the local scrappies and out in the sticks, have to look further afield.

When were the breathers and IACV* last cleaned out thoroughly?

I wouldn't spend any money on replacing bits unless the answer to this is "within the last year, following Grumpy's guide to the letter".
I imagine that the map invoked when you disconnect the MAF could well mask the symptoms caused by breather/IACV* problems.

*Edit, might not be such a thing on the 2.2...?

It might be worth doing this first:-

If it hasn't been done for a couple of years or so.
