power loss at 3500 rpm
« on: 22 November 2009, 21:27:18 »

Hello !!
When I was driving my omega today I was losing power at 3500 rpm. It is like its hitting the rev limiter, has major power loss and I think it drinks a little more petrol. It starts like its brand new and runs just fine between 2000 and 3500 rpm.
I have a minor coolant leak somewhere at the back of the engine. Can somehow the leak cause that power loss, or if not, what can it be?

And maybe somebody can recomend me some good garage in Kent (Medway area) where I can fix it.

cheers!!

Does it rev ok once you get past 3500rpm?

The ECU applies a lower rev limit if it detects a fault (not sure if this applies to all the error codes or just a subset).

Not sure what the lower rev limit is set at. I think I have seen references to 4000 (or even 4500) though not 3500.

Chances are if it feels like a hard limit that there will be an error code waiting to be read.

My Mrs' car would not rev over 3000 rpm when the crank sensor was on its way out.
Like suggested do the paperclip test or pedaltrick to read the code/codes. :y
