best setting to demist side windows
« on: 19 December 2009, 20:04:50 »

With the temp well below -2 all day it means that the ac compresser shuts down. I have cheked the pollen fillter and that they is no water  around that area all fine  new fillter last year . But with so may setting on the CC was wondering what setting other members use to demist when the temp is this low.
and the ac compreser has turned off.

Thanks
Steve :y

If you set the temp to high the fans should default to windows.

Are your windows misting up in cold clear weather?

My windows hardly ever mist up. But a high temp always sorts it's out if they did

The compressor shuts down because you don't need any COLD air !!!!  You still have as much warm air as you want. Warm air blown onto the windows will

1) Evaporate any moisture that has condensed on to the windows (misted them up)

2) Heat the window glass slightly so preventing further misting.

So a good blast of HOT air for 5-10 minutes  is my answer :)

In this weather I start the car as soon as I can (straight after I unlock it!) and make sure both heaters are set to 'Hi' and the 'Windscreen' mode is selected. I also make sure fan is set to 8 (1 down from max). Flick on the heated rear window switch while your inside.

I then scrape of the ice off all the windows etc - by this I've finished that, the vents will be blowing slightly warm air out and 80% of the mist will have cleared!  :y

Now jump in and get ready to count how many times you go sideways!  ;D

only ever use the demist setting myself.

Unlock, engine on, turn on the top 2 buttons (rear window heater and demist gives full fan speed and full heat as it becomes available) heated seats on full. Then lock the door with the spare key in the lock and go have breakfast. Nice warm car when your ready and still on time for work. :-)

Unless its covered in snow of course in which case scoop the snow off first(i use a dust pan with a rubber blade on the lead edge.) before you open the door or you'll have a wet arse when you sit down, and make sure your rain sensor wipers are off before you turn the key or you'll get a screen full of snow over you and the foot well. ;D

The thing to remember is that the A/c is not only to provide cold air - it is also a de-humidifier. For this reason it will come back on when you select the screen demist setting - no matter what the outside temp. Hit the button with the engine idling and you will see the revs go up about 100 rpm as the compressor starts up. Then you get warm dry air - clears it in no time :y

Disregard my last post - it was nonsense :'( it seems that on recent cars this is not the case as l found out this morning! It used to work on my old 1995 cdx IIRC - although l don't think it was ever as cold as now!
