I gave up and disconnected the hoses at the HBV and the back of the engine.

cant do it here as its in the open and freezing  so would take too long to take all the scuttle tray off. i'll have to wait till new year then when warmer.

thanks

Suppose you have already tried to take the vacuum line off the top of the HBV so it stays fully open before you decided the heater matrix was blocked? Mine is a poor heater too but I have now reached the conclusion by eradicating everything else one by one that the thermostat is either jammed open or missing. Unlike you I have no intention of waiting for the weather to warm up so I am dioing it asap whether it is freezing cold or not on the drive.
If it is the thermostat I have a spare working one because I ordered 2 with the housing and an insert too for good measure! GudLuk

The secret to doing them is to pull the outer locking ring back as shown and then twist them a few times to un-stick them....then pull whilst twisting
