cabin heat
« on: 27 December 2009, 17:22:39 »

ive taken both heater pipes off and flushed both ways, seems clear to me. squeezed big pipe to release air but that seems ok, when i take the yellow cap off expansion tank there doesnt seem to be any pressure, im not losing any water as its still the same level as its been for the last 2 months. im now getting a very slight bit of warmth from the heater but thats it. ??

leave the top off the tank get the engie temp up2 85-90, ( from cold run on idle should take 15mins if less then its not opening) turn off he engine and see if it starts to turn in to a fountin if not your thermostat is not opening or is stuck open altime. if over flows quick then there is a blockage (or air) on main line usaly the return pipe from top of the termstate to the tank top. :y

If Rich's thermostat was stuck open, would his fan be running full time?

it can do as the hot water gose into the radiator and cools down on way round, but would say the thermastat is on its way out, somtimes when they go there are off all time or stuck on all time.

if engine is acting norm now would back flush the heater rad mix, take the two pipes off and flush water throught the bottom pipe to come out the top pipe fulsh until clean water come's out, can doit with a compressor fill water tank to top, take the top pipe off the top of the rad, on the top pipe that has been tsken off attach the compressor turn on wile putting finger in the hole a top pipe get to 30psi and let your finge off repeat until clear this will clean the hole engine out and rads. after clear re-attach the pipes back top up, run engine with top off make sure the heaters inside are on full leave the top off the tank and squeeze th pipe as engine warms up even the two pipes to the rad heater up two 85-90c then leave to cool down when cooled down top up with water or antifreeze if no space to put antifreeze undo the draner on the bottom of the front rad bottom right and top up wile letting out water then put top back on should be all done then, should flush systerm out ever 9 to 10 months and put anticorrisions fluid in systerm in then should be every 3-5 years. :y
