Door handle whoops
« on: 04 January 2010, 10:33:52 »

So the CID says it's -7C outside, after I manage to get into the car via the passenger door.  I can't get in via the driver's door as it didn't unlock, but a quick lock/unlock sorts that.

Climb in from passenger side as driver's door still doesn't open.  Try to push open from the inside but only succeed in snapping what I assume is the cable that opens the door, as I end up yanking the handle rather hard ;D.

So, I guess this means the door card needs to come off etc. so is this a big job?  At least it's not the motor that unlocks the door, as that failed twice on my previous Omega...

Ta, getting lazy again, should have checked to see if there was a guide to removing the card.  Just need to find out what I've broken now...

It's a solid rod that links the interior handle to the lock mechanism. I would think if you've been heavy handed  ::) then it'll be the back of handle that's broke .......

Can you open the door from the outside?

The interior handle might feel 'dead' because you have already unlatched the door but the mechanism might still be frozen (or the door seal still frozen).

Definitely time to wax the door seals and lubricate all of the locking mechanisms. (once you can get it open and get the door cards off).

I can open the door from the outside, fortunately.
Will see what happens when I go home tonight.  Sounds quite plausible in that the door is unlatched, but I expect the use of brute force and ignorance has broken something  ;D.

Doh!  Just tried it now and it's broken.  Can get into the car but can't get out, so rather than climb over from the passenger side I shall be winding down the window and opening it from the outside  ;D.

Should it get warm enough by the weekend, and SWMBO lets me, I will endeavour to take the door card off and see what I've broken...
