Can anyone tell me where the water pump is located and what it looks like?

Also would a water pump not working cause the engine to overheat? How much pressure does it pump the water through?  I.e if i took the small pipe of the thermostat housing would it leak out as if I were topping it up or should it be flying everywhere? This is with the engine running.

Also after draining the system to take the thermostat out last night, i topped it back up and expected to need to top it up more after starting the engine but the water didnt move at all, does this mean the water pump is knackered?

Assuming petrol, its near crank.  Its cambelt driven.

Rate of flow should be directly proportional to engine revs.  So get an assistant to blip the throttle while you watch the 'trickle'.

Yes, if it's boogered, it will cause the engine to overheat.

Also check history on hemostat change, its common for them to fail around 105-115k ish
