Donut bushes - the mysterious metal cup
« on: 20 January 2010, 09:00:42 »

Ok, I just want to try clear this up in my head once and for all. I keep reading about a metal cup that needs to be removed with the donut bushes.

The replacements I have bought do not come with any metal cup, but it seems from pictures I've seen that the bush should sit inside one.  :question

1. Is the metal cup correctly identified in the 3 photos below?
2. Is it simply removed and discarded as in the bottom right photo? Does the bush on the right sit inside this cup?
3. Does the new bush go in without a metal cup?

Many thanks

That metal cup you are pointing to is welded into the arm so it won't come out

Mark is right, in the lower-right picture the bit you are pointing at is the inner part of the bush, the metal cup can be seen just to the right of that, still fixed inside the outer part of the bush. It is normally sandwiched in the bush, but when really old, or under a lot of force to remove the bits can seperate - or so I understand...

The E-type purists don't like them - what do they know!

What's the fuel economy like on that then Mark?
