Hi, help needed
« on: 23 January 2010, 19:54:24 »

Hi ya guys i've recently bought a 2001 2.5 v6 omega and i have a couple of issues. I'm from bristol.

Firstly i have got the normal oil leak from rocker cover
Secondly i got the abs tc lights on no speedo problem
Thirdly i also seem to have a slight knocking noise when engine is on load. When on idle it dissapears. It makes same noise when start from cold.

I'm after some ideas what might cause these problems and hopefully some kind of solution. Any help is welcome

If it's from cold does it go when the engine has warmed up? If so could be the hydraulic lifters, a couple of short oild changes should sort it out. As for knocking when on load, could be anything. Check any service history it came with, might well need a bloody good service. Also make sure the cambelt/tensioners etc have been changed at the correct mileage/years (40k/4yrs)  :y

Can't help you with that problem mate  ;)

Cam covers - replace gaskets with genuine Vx - clean breathers as that is probably the reason they leak.
ABS ECU breaked mate.
Probably hydraulic lifters sticking - a few oil changes should cure (use Vx 10/40W semi oil) OR could be leaking exhaust manifold gasket.

ABS light - the others are probably right. ECU kaputted. Change it is the best way.
As for the rest of the problems;
Give it a dose of Redex in the fuel tank and when you do an oil change put a can of Wynnes flushing mix down its oil filler neck the day before the oil change and run it till its good and hot. Get it hot before you drop the old oil too. I change the filter twice to make sure, once just before I add the Wynnes and then again when I change the oil. You will be surprised just how much crap comes out!
Use a decent semi-synth oil, do not be tempted by the cheapos or you will go rapidly back to square one.
As advised, clean out the breather system as per the Guide section, no shortcuts, do it all. That may just result in your camcovers not needing to be removed. If they have to be use only the genuine VX parts or you will most likely have to do it again in short order.
You probably already know that there is no substitute for a decent service - Migs are temperamental that way.
I wish you well with your new Mig.

I had the TC/ABS light on mine with a working speedo and all it turned out to be was a bad earth to one of the brake lights.
