Just got 2 x aftermarket cam cover gaskets for my V6 as i cant afford VX at the moment and the car will be going as soon as its running right.
Thing is looking at pics of gaskets on fleabay and looking at these ones they dont look the same and there are definately NO "O" rings included like some on fleabay.
Mine are made by BGA part Nos RC0356 and RC0359 www.bgautomotive.co.uk
It does say they are for the X25XE engine (amongst others) in their online catalogue but why NO "O" rings or are they just for another job.

you need to replace the o-rings too, they will leak. (thats what started to go on mine)

Afraid to say, if you buy pattern you will be buying twice. They don't last as long, it will be cheaper on the long run to get Vx gaskets. You also need the black sealant from Vx....

The man is dead right! Must be a thumbs down cos its almost certain to leak again in short order. Aftermarket seals are crap with a capital C, in fact it should be S.
Best you can do is find some extra seals for the bolts etc and use plenty of silicone or instant gasket to help it seal. The best stuff I have come across is Blue Hermatite. It stays flexible but will grab and hold things in place until you get the bits assembled. Make sure they are thoroughly clean and dry first!
Next time save for the right bits and you will only have once to do it.
Remember the name Blue Hermatite, Halfords stock it and yeah, its Blue.

My favourite over the years has been Blue Hylomar. Its key feature is that it never goes hard. If you have a piece of 50's (or earlier) British iron you can keep the oil and water in despite the state of the gasket faces and the fretting of flexible (or knackered) castings.
When the time comes for the next rebuild the Hylomar can be removed without damaging the surfaces.

On an engine that doesn't flex and has good surfaces you don't actually need it. Because it remains sticky the dirt sticks to it and it excess sealant ends up in the sump.

I would use the specified rubber seals with a dab of VX black sealant in the corners. Keep the the Hylomar for the old-uns that can't help dribbling

No supposedly about it! They stop oil escaping around the flat sections where the bolts hold in the cam cover:

Money.

Simple.

You have to buy them seperately .. so they can charge more. If they included them and the price in the "kit" their price might become "uncompetitive"   marketing speak for not appearing to be the cheapest ..  but you get what you pay for.... 

Vx every time IMHO .. buy once, fix once ..

You can get the o rings for pence from any bearing stockists, just take an old one with you to match up.
As regards the gaskets themselves I think some aftermarket ones are better than others, I fitted a set of Elring gaskets to mine nearly 12 months ago and I have had no problems yet(they will probably start leaking now Ive said that). The most Important thing is to make sure that the mating surfaces are clean and oil free, use meths or similar to make sure everything is spotless. As said use a dab of silicone sealant in the corners either the genuine GM black stuff or good quality high temprature silicone and dont overtighten the bolts

I bought some cam cover gaskets off ebay (can't remember who made them) and 18 monthts and 15,000 miles after fitting them - guess what - they are NOT leaking - pays your money and takes your chances

What completely mystifies me, is how anyone can look at the metal insert, and the solidity of the plastic surrounding it, and still claim that over-tightening the bolts that pull these bits down onto the cam-caps could possibly distort the cover.

If it's a V6 16 x o'rings needed, gaskets from VX don't come with O rings, VX gaskets were around £27+vat from VX trade club, pm Andy c on here for trade club VX parts

From Vx the O-rings are part no 90411826  you need 16 of them and they are a whole 17p (+ VAT) each !! (less than £3 !!!)

Already been answered. Money! - No doubt some garages don't bother changing them so trade supply just gaskets
