My nearside exhaust centre section pipe has corroded and now pulled away from the back box and logic says that as both the centre sections are GM they are probably original circa 1998 but look in good condition.
On closer inspecting it seems that where both the curevd sections of pipe go over the rear axle this is an are of potential rust/rot.
Not intending to be be tight but as I had read so many posts about poor quality aftermarket exhausts,would I be wise sticking with the original sections and finding a competant exhaust specialist that could cut out the old bits of pipe and replace with new,as that will ensure the silencers remain .

The the weld has rusted through, the rest of the exhaust will rot through shortly (remember, they rust from the inside out).

Eternal seem to be about the best of the aftermarket, and as good as the current GM sold by dealers, and comes to about £130 for 2 centre pieces and backbox, delivered

I have changed my exhaust recently because of the same rotted pipes that you have got.  Like you, my centre boxes looked to be as new from outside, but when I got the exhaust off lots of rust fell out of the centre boxes and looking inside I could see they were in bad shape.

Probably best to change the whole lot for Eternal Car.

Felt I was being abit optomistic.

On the plus side I will only require the 2 center sections as the rear box is a stainless steel jobbie and in v good condition so the cost will be reduced.

What is the normal delivery time from order to receipt with the Eternal setup,and is the quality really upto that of GM as had a really bad experience with a Bosal system long time ago on a previuos Omega and it sounded really nasty.

Eternal not a patch on the older style GM, but I'd say not far off the current GM V6 exhaust (quality went downhill about 2 years ago).

I have eternal on my car.  It doesn't sound as good as the (old style) GM that came off, and suspect it won't last the 5yrs that the GM one did.  Eternal is probably the best of the cheap aftermarkets.

Consider stainless, as you already have backbox?

Hope you can seperate the centres from the backbox

Seconded on the Eternal option - delivered mine in two days, and I fitted it in four hours with no experience whatsoever, with the car on axle stands.

Mind you, next time I'll do it on a ramp. No fun drilling out two snapped bolts with the drill half an inch from my face.

I have just put phone down to Eternal after ordering both mid sections and fittings.Helpfull guy said delivery would be 2/3 days so lets pray for sunshine towards the end of the week,and lets hope I havent gone mad with the noise the blown pipe is making...sounds like a real "boy racer mobile".

I'm trying to buy an Eternal exhaust right now. When I phoned Eternal, they said I had to order through eBay. Trouble is, on eBay they don't make it clear which is RHS and which is LHS and I can't even find a back box anymore. Wish they'd just sell a kit!

They have a direct web site, although I am still not sure they specify left and right - but I presume you need both anyway?   Otherwise have a look under the car and compare with the pic.. (not ideal I know).

I have found them very responsive by email so maybe worth dropping them a line.
