MOT passed small help needed
« on: 02 March 2010, 14:07:46 »

Well the mig passed the mot today, got two small warnings.
1. Slight difference between the rear wheels while breaking with handbrake.
2. Wear on the inside of the rear tyres a little higher than on the outside.
Guys what are the causes of this and what should I do to remedy it?
Thank you in advance

Good news on the pass :y :y :y

1)  Service the handbrake shoes as per the guide in the Maintenance Section

2)  Is down to suspension geometry. If you were in the UK we'd be saying WIM but don't know if you have anywhere similar near you?

I know everyone suggests WIM but I'm couple of thousands of miles away :(
When you refer to suspension geometry do you mean when the car is jacked up and every wheel is slightly balanced by a machine holding it?
Or you refer to tyre being balanced by adding small weights on the wheel

That is wheel balancing .. geometry is the wheel alignement, ... vertical (camber), horizontal (toe in) and the correct "straightness" of the back wheels to the front wheels.

This can only be set accurately using precision equipment. Many garages can do "tracking" (toe in) .. but few can do all the other bits.

I don't know how good your english is  (seems good to me so far) .. but this info might help ..

http://www.blackboots.co.uk/tech-geometrytheory.php

There is a LOT more on geometry theory on that site .... if you need it  . :)

I know the distance issue :( :(

Suspension geometry involves adjusting all the various "Tie Bars" (for want of a better description ::)) to align the wheels in the 3 dimensions :y

If the wear isn't dramatically different I personally wouldn't worry too much

Were the rear tyres ever on the front as if so then the rear set up is probably fine, once a tyre begins an uneven wear pattern it almost always will continue to wear in this way right down to the end of the tread. What i am saying is they might have been on the front a long time ago and then put on the back but the uneven wear pattern started at the front would continue even though the rear set up is ok.

Actually the front tyres have slight wear on the inner side.
Rear have only imbalance with the handbrake.
The guy at mot said wishbones and other parts all seem ok
