Head gasket locators
« on: 02 March 2010, 12:50:57 »

Is there an easy way to pull the head gasket locators out of the cylinder head so they can be refitted in the block?

Just crushed one slightly with mole grips and now it won't go back in properly >:(

Use a tap, as it starts to cut the thread so the dowel will turn and can be removed.

Found that I definitely have all 4 pegs. Three are out now and one is stuck in passenger side head. It is now very badly mauled but still refuses to come out. I have just phoned andyc to get 4 new ones.

Don't have any taps Nick and don't really want to go and buy any if I can help it. Found a snug fitting socket inside the dowel and then mole grips seems to work well (got the other 3 out anyway) :y

Any other suggestions?

Unfortunately no mate as it was the way i was shown how to remove them ;)
I have come across some that wouldn't turn so a thread got cut into it but it wasn't a problem as a dowel extractor could be screwed into it and then the dowel could be pulled out.

Measure the dowels ID first so you get a big enough one ;)
