split manual gearbox?
« on: 05 March 2010, 22:25:36 »

I dropped my gearbox and bend the stub where the gear linkage go's onto:( so I'm trying to take the back bit of the gearbox off to see if i can swap the stub with one from another box, but i can't get it split, I've removed all the m8 bolts and the thing the prop shaft attachs to and I can only get it split a little (about 5mm) has anyone ever split a manual box?

yes, just last week.

my advice - get another one.

The Getrag 240s are extremely difficult to strip and re-assemble properly - everything is assembled into the rear casing, so you need to do pretty much a complete strip on it.

There is a Haynes manual which is pretty good - you need the "Vauxhall Carlton" manual (1469), before it was updated into the Carlton/Senator manual.

Good luck
