Is it normal for the aircon not work in this weather it was only 3 degrees this afternoon. the eco button still alters the revs, so I assume the compressor is working.

I'm not sure about the compressor being told to work or not but I've read a couple of posts which say the aircon doesn't get activated if the outside temp is less than 5...

To do: Replace brake discs and pads; adjust already replaced shoes; check for leaks in oil cooler, cambelt area, crank seals, sump, dipstick; replace osf door; replace a tyre; clean, MOT.
