Short journey set-up
« on: 11 March 2010, 20:32:18 »

Seem to be spending all my time doing 3mile journeys 3 or 4 times a day at the moment.

Miggy isn't complaining much yet but wondered if any of you experts could advise on anything I can do by way of damage limitation? e.g. idle for a while before setting off, keep in low gear, change the oil or buy an electric car?  :-?

Always get going soon after it's started. Idling wastes fuel and is not good for a cold engine.

Doing a lot of short journeys does increase the 'mayo' factor around the oil filler neck so you could remove the filler neck and place the oil cap on direct to the engine. If you need to top up you can use a funnel.

Thanks for the advice.  Looks like the breathers need a check.  Only problem is I don't have the time (or tools).  Would it be worthwhile taking her to a trusted mechanic just to get this done or should I tag it onto a service or something else?
