New exhaust (horrible noise)
« on: 25 March 2010, 16:04:21 »

Had a new exhaust fitted by formular 1 in jan 2010. its been giving me problems ever since..
The problem is noise...I have to drive about 20 miles to work on the motorway but after a short time at a constant speed the back box sounds horrible (worse than normal) but once i park up and wait for a few minutes then start the car it sounds fine. I've taken it back to them a couple of times but as its only a couple of miles away  it sounds fine when its on thier ramp.. even if you let the engine get nice and hot and rev it up a bit.
When i am driving down the motorway a only get the noise when i'm accelerating. the noise seems to be louder at about 2000 - 2500 rpm.
it was the two middle box's and the back box that they fitted.
Any ideas?

Thanks tony i'll take it back and while its up on the ramp i'll have a look at the mountings for myself .To be honest i think one of the box.s they fitted is faulty. going to ask them to replace the whole thing or at least the back box. The guys down there are pretty good. I've been using them for years and they've always been very helpful. its just typical that i cant get the exhaust to make the noise when its on there ramp. i'll have to try and get one of them to come for a test drive so they can hear it for themselves.

Formula 1; Only in desperation and as a last resort should anyone contemplate using them! I have heard of a few who have had the exhaust problems and I reckon its because they are el cheapo foreign imports and the baffles are not secure. Maybe they also use grannies knickers for the sound absobtion material too. They try not to use new mountings too if they can get away with it. I always go under to check myself before they drop it. Anyone noticed how quick they are to let the hoist down, or is it just my keen eye? They appear to use only the cheapest crap for their customers. Tyres are fine but anything else GO ELSEWHERE or prepare for the worst.
