Omega Cooling/Interior heat ,problems
« on: 27 March 2010, 21:50:38 »

Hello
I have a Omega MV6 -95, 3L
This winter the coolingliquid probably got frozen when I drove...
I've drained some coolingfluid from my engine to add some more freezingliquid. I did so by loosing a hose to the radiator.
After I did so the interior heat didn't get as warm as before. I thought it was air in the system!
I tried to bleed the air by loosing the expansiontank cover and let the engine run.
When I did so the fluid started bubble and rising, eventually overflow.
So I added some more cooling liquid and tried again but the same thing happened, it overflowed.
The temparature gauge in the car also acted funny, with the expansiontank cover off and in idle speed.
The temperature slowly increased up to 100°, but when you reved the engine the temp decreased!

When you drive the car it performs as it should. The temp is normal.

Is it air in the system or what is it???
...and is it normal that you get air in the system in the 3L V6 engine??

It's possible that your temperature gauge gave false reading because the sensor was no longer in water because you had air in the system.
Whenever I have filled a car with coolant (cooling fluid  ;)) I have slowly filled it gently squeezing hoses. Start the engine and fill as required as it gets hotter. I think your problem has been, that you have let the car get hot enough to boil your coolant, which is why it has over flowed the header tank. If when  your car is hot - but not boiling - you replace your filler cap & then leave it to get fully warm all should be OK. Just keep an eye on the level over the next few days. Don't remove the cap when the engine is hot, it's a pressurised system & the coolant will expand & overflow.  ;)

Water boils at 100 degrees C at normal atmospheric pressure i.e.: with the expansion cap off. With the system pressurised as it is supposed to be, the water boils at a much higher temperature, so under normal running conditions, the car should never overheat. :y
