vriable wiper stalk
« on: 08 April 2010, 15:52:57 »

I've just tried changing my wiper stalk for one that is vriable following the link below.
http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1225410105/23#23
I now have all the MID display functions and the wipers do wipe but i now have no variable action at all.  I have re-read the instructions and cannot see what i have done wrong.  I have changed the relay with the one supplied and even tried it with the original relay all to no avail.  To try and help i will tray and put it as accuratly as possible.
Wiper arm in position 1 and i get nothing
Position 2 it wipes as before slowly
Position 3 and it's a fast sweep.

If i go from position 2 to 1 the arms stop in the position they were when i switched.

Any assistance from the knowledgeable would be greatly welcomed.

Jack Sorry for any spelling mistakes :-/

Have you cut both wires on the main plug

yes i've located the correct wires the white/black and black/yellow from the same connecter and connected them to the ones from the original 5 pin plug.  I'm assuming that the 3 pin plug is wired correctly as all the MID functions work correctly and the wires brown, brown/red and the brown/yellow all line up correctly.

I've never done the variable speed mod on an Omega (it already had it  ;)) but I did it on my Senator using an Omega stalk. I used these instructions  .....
http://www.akirwan.freeserve.co.uk/akhow2/omegaw.doc and had no problems. I don't know if they're relevant  :-/

Andy, firstly thanks for that but it appears to be very similar to the one i posted.  It also leaves me in the same dilema and that is having the black/white and black/yelloow wires left over.  I have cut them and connected them as per instructions and it isn't working which is why i'm left somewhat perplexed.   :-/

Assuming the stalk you bought is secondhand, are you sure that the variable wipe facility was operable :question

In a word no i'm not sure.  I have just got it so that it works on the variable setting but it cannot be adjusted it just wipes every half second or so.  Is anyone close by who has a working one that i could try?

If all the wiring connections are correct I`d hazard a guess that the stalk is knackered
