I am driving a 2.5 1998 with 99500 indicated miles on the clock and would like to know your opinion on flushing before oil changes.I have only owned this car for 3 days so dont know the history.

There was a recent thread on this, whether to or not.

Conclusion was really if you flush then it may loosen any crude build up and block the oil ways.

Best policy was to do 2 quick oil changes, seeing you've just got the car this might be a good idea anyway, with GM semi 10-40W:y

Don't flush, simple as that.

My Omega's oil, when I got her, was as thick as gravy.

She has now had 3 oil changes in the last 5,000 miles an is as clean as a whistle again.

As mentioned, quick low mileage oil changes are the answer.  Engine flush could well become a VERY expensive disaster. ??

Modify your information and "whereabouts" and some kind soul may be able to pick you up some GM oil cheaply on Trade Club. Use GM only !

It's interesting that the independant Smart garage I phoned to ask a question about a flickering oil pressure light on SWMBO's Smart Roadster always used & recomemnded an oil flush every oil change  :-/
IIRC Merc oil changes are every 7000 miles on Smarts

My personal advice would be not to flush unless absolutely necessary.  Instead, try to do some 'quick' oil changes (say every 500miles) to clean the oilways up.

There are times, however, when flushing is unavoidable.  People who I trust on here tend to recommend Forte's engine flush in these rare scenarios...   ...though for tractors I tend to use some lethal stuff that Omegatoy gets hold of, that'll strip brown stuff from blankets.
