Wheel Wobble When Braking!
« on: 26 April 2010, 12:19:15 »

On an earlier topic of mine about front brake discs, I now have a wheel wobble when braking. It does not feel the same as when I had warped discs on my 3.0 litre. Anybody any ideas on this? Thanks.

as above, but also check for any excessive play in the steering idler arm, pattern ones are rubbish and don't last long!

I had wheel wobble under braking (front), that is braking from around 50+mph, below that not noticable.
It was down to absolutely shot discs. They looked not bad on the outside but the inner surface had corroded so badly there was hardly any shiney metal surface left for the pads to bite to.
I had new pads only 6 months earlier, that was a waste of money. I had to change both discs and pads again.
Not saying it could be this, just saying it's what caused my wheel wobble :y

Like mine? It didn't cause a wobble, but the brakes did feel a bit wooden.

Yes MickAP! It is more noticable when braking above 50mph. The MOT station did say that the discs were scored hence me asking about new discs in the other thread. So you guys think it is the discs then? Thanks.

As said that was my problem, and I opted for new discs and pads and it sorted it. :y
If your's are heavily scored then maybe it's the problem, take look at the inner surface of the disc first. If you need new discs anyway, no harm in doing this first before spending further money on other things.
GM discs and pads recommended :y

Just had a look at the insides of the discs, they are definitely looking worse than the outsides. So it looks like I will have to get new GM ones. Thanks guys!  :y
