tram linning and squeeling tyres on mv6 estate
« on: 10 May 2010, 11:05:19 »

[size=16]I had the tracking done on my
2000 mv6 estate last week - also changed front left wheel with rear left wheel and since doing this I have noticed
that the front tyres squeel at low speed and I also a increase in tramlining - tyres are 235/45/17?
had tracking checked again yesterday and ok.
tyre pressures set at 31 allround

any suggestions?

thanks

Some tyres are more prone to tramlining.

What was the tyre wear like? Any inner shoulder wear?

Why did you have to change the wheels?

about 3/4 mm

Also no sign of inner wear (due to tracking)

I had these on my Omega, couldn't wait to get rid of them , they would be affected by the smallest imperfection in the road. I hated them...

I'm running a 2003 3.2 Estate (235x45x17) which tramlined from new so dis-count any wear factors (bushes etc) on mine and I've found the tramlining varies according to tyre wear.
To try to explain further:

Michelin Pilot Sport were good on my car to start with but as the tread got less the tramlining got worse (and they cost a million pounds each). I replaced them for the same and it happened again so I didn't dream it.
My Hankooks were pretty much the same as the Pilot Sports but lasted no-where near as long (good grip though). Soft rubber/squealey tyre but good grip.

My current Toyo Proxes T1R's tramlined like a pig from the very start on uneven tarmac but don't appear to be as affected by the lorry ruts on the A34 so I give up.

Bushes are still 7 years old whether you've owed it from new or not  ;)

I have the same size tyres (Michelins) on facelift rims on my car and don't suffer particularly from tramlining either with or without my caravan .  :y

mine tramlines a bit on country lanes with the michy pilots but with the van behind on the open road its the most stable thing I have ever towed with(my last motor was a grand cherokee and I don't rate them much as a towcar except across fields)

Kumho on the rear, fronts are 'supercheapo' things, but seem pretty good (although soon to be replaced with more Kumho), no tramlining.
