Radiator compatibility?
« on: 18 May 2010, 17:29:12 »

I have a crack in the plastic at the top of the radiator, not sure if its fixable with k-seal.

I have an 95/96 2.0 16v GLS X20XEV manual without air con.

My question is:
What is the difference between the manual radiator and the auto radiator?
Am I right in thinking that the additional connections are to pass oil through the radiator from the auto box to cool it? if so can I fit the auto radiator to my manual car and just leave the additional connections open?

The one fitted has the odd extended mounting brackets on the n/s and looks like the ones shown below.

Auto Box Rad Note the additional 2 apertures on right hand side.

From my limited knowledge they extra holes are for the gearbox oil to be cooled. A couple of pipes come from the box and attach to the rad. Not sure of the implications of fitting an auto rad to a manual but i would blank off the holes to prevent foreign objects getting in

If you try to buy one from Vx* without those extra holes, you'll get one that has them anyway now.  They come with flimsy yellow plastic blanking plugs loosely in, IIRC.

It's a separate pipeway so doesn't matter what you do with the holes.  :)
