TECH2 / OBD-II?
« on: 19 June 2010, 22:53:30 »

A quick question - I did a little searching around, and I'm none the wiser  :D

A 1995 (1996 car but seems to have a 1995 engine, I think) 2.5 TD; is the TECH2 port actually an OBD-II port?

I have an ELM-327 based reader somewhere (bought for the other car - a 2002 MR2 Roadster, before I ditched the Toyota engine management and mapped my PFC myself) and before I go hunting for it after it got lost moving house, I wondered if it was even worth it ;)

Damn, I had a feeling you were going to say that ;)

I was thwarted on the oil change today, too.. I think I have the wrong oil filter element - I have one for a plastic-capped filter, but I have a metal-capped filter (I suspect the engine came out of a BMW based on what Pitchfork said today as I was comparing my car to his).. d'oh!

Paperclip test works - I already tried that one :) Reads just the 'start' code 12, so that's all good..

I just wanted to try logging some live data to test out the EGR solenoid that I think is stuck.. but I shall use the old fashioned test - 12v across the terminals and listen for the click! ;)

;D ;D S'alright, I be pissed in my house!  ;D

I know OBD-II became mandatory in '96 in the US, and I think Europe, but not the UK.. so yes, perhaps it's TECH1.

Still, no great shame - just no live data for me.

Now I just need to figure out which oil filter element I need for sure  :-?
