Help! Stuck Door.
« on: 07 July 2010, 12:42:35 »

Some how, don't ask me as I'm flippin' annoyed, but somehow when I pulled away in the wifes car earlier and pulled round to the right to turn round, the nearside front door swung open and jammed open. SWMBO swears blind she shut the door but nevertheless it swung open so hard that it wouldn't shut. I suspect the door stay is now shagged as I had to force it shut (seeing as we weren't at home) but now I can't undo the flipping door to see what's wrong >:(
You can't quite pull the button up far enough to unlock, and if you pull it up as far as you can and hold it then try undoing the door it feels like the door catch is not quite biting just as if the buttons not high enough to unlock the door which of course it isn't.
I can't get the door trim off as the doors stuck shut so I'm stuffed. Any advice, apart from a divorce ::)

Guesses .. nowt else ..  :(

If the door swung open with that amount of force that it stuck there, and you had to force it shut, I'm guessing you may have damaged the hinges or the hinge brackets.

SO, if it now won't open .. but you say it "nearly" does .. it might well be that the hinge damage has "misaligned" the door.

It MIGHT be worth putting a long handled screwdriver/tyre lever (jemmy ??) under the door (bit of cloth as well to save the paintwork) and just try lifting the door GENTLY whilst you try and undo the catch ... might just move it far enough to clear ???

As said .. pure guesswork .. but it's what I'd try ...

The doors aligned ok, but I think it the door stay is probably FUBAR'd as I had to force that bit back. Perhaps she did shut the door properly and the catch has had it instead...

as mentioned, forced shut, then force open. get someone inside putting pressure on the door while trying the door handle/jiggling from the outside.

I think that's the only way round it as I've looked again and I can't see any way of getting the door trim off with the door shut! Mark, how did you get all the screws out? I don't want to bugger up the door trim but that's the only way round it unless the above doesn't work :(

thin flat blade screw driver to get the side ones if you take all the top and middle screws out the door card can be lifted off its clips near the window edge but becarful when doing this as the card can get damaged get arm in and remove external handle we then work'd on lock from there and we did manage to sort the problem
