Hi,

I have just put my Omega 2.0 16V 1995 Eco-tech Engine car on the road after having it in sorned for nearly 2 years.

My fuel consumption seems a lot higher then it should be.

It has only been on the road since Sunday when I took it for a spin. From £20 worth of fuel at 116.9 a litre it managed 75 miles before it was running on fumes and a fair bit of the driving was dual carriageway at a steady 60 - I haven't been ragging it about as I've been trying to drive carefully to see how much fuel it is using.

The instant consumption urban driving usually seems to spend far too much time around the 7-15 MPG area and idle reading is .4/.5 MPG.

Is this all I can expect or is something drastically wrong?

I love this car even if it is old but I doubt I'll keep it unless I can do something about the fuel consumption - I'm sure it was never this bad?

How good a service has it had since being laid up?

I would want new filters all round - Air, Fuel, Oil,
New Oil
Breather Clean
New / clean up the plugs.

Then prob 1/2 tank of GOOD ie vpower type fuel, and / or use of injector cleaners (forte advanced gas treatment or STP etc)

Check for fault codes,

Check exhaust system,

(plus brake service etc, not that it will have anything to do with the engine etc)

I probably wouldnt take any notice of consumption till it was run in again after that lot.

give the car a bloody good service first mate 

plugs, oil, filters and breathers 

stick some injector cleaner in the tank and take it for a good italian tune up 

then come back on here  with the results

I presume that amount of fuel consumption is not right for my motor then?

20-30 mpg depending on trip / style is probablt your ball park.

obviously being one of the smaller omega engines, it can be quite economical, but with the downside of often more full throttle is used as it can feel underpowered, making it less economical.

My normal shortish trips in a 3.2 auto gives me low 20's
our old 2.2 was very similar!
our 3.0 manual manages mid 20's

any could easily do 30 sitting at 70ish

If it has been standing for 2 years I would check the brakes aren't binding.

sounds a little heavy to me, my 2.5 Elite estate averages 22mpg normal use and 30 ish on a long run(if the trip computer is accurate)
