Omega 3.0 auto box issue
« on: 21 August 2010, 14:31:24 »

Hi people.

I had a quick look but didnt spot this issue so sorry if this problem has already been answered.

I have a 1994 Omega 3.0 with the "sealed for life" auto box. The problem I have is that occasionally when turning right on a roundabout it seems to lose gear as if you are dipping a clutch. I was wondering if the transmission fluid needed topping up but then discovered its the sealed unit. Any advice would be greatly appreciated as anything I can do.

Cheers
Paul (bridlington area)

Hi Paul and welcome :y :y

Although the gearboxes are "Sealed" units, there is a level plug on the side. It sounds like your problem is fluid level/condition. If it has never been done I would seriously advise an ATF change. There is a guide in the maintenance section :y :y

Hi Paul

Welcome to the forum. There isn't a dipstick for the gearbox  however the level can be checked by removing a bung on the Rh side of the side of the gearbox (under the drivers side in UK.)

Now it is good practice to do an oil change on the gearbox and use Dexron111 oil. To do this you need to drop the two sumps and let the oil out. A bit of a messy affair. There is a good guide in the maintenance section on how to do it. gaskets and a filter (or clean your existing one) are subject to a deal with a company called JPat. see top of one of the sections. Oil needs changing maybe every 80k miles  less miles if hammered or towing a lot.

First port of call is to check the level..  http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1152783586

Hi and thanks for quick responses.

When I took car to garage to get it topped up via the bung on the side of the gearbox it appears the garage couldnt find one. They even showed me under the car when it was up on the ramp and I didnt spot any bung either. Maybe ny eyesight is getting bad haha. Am very baffled  :-/

Hi
Change your garage, or even better, do it yourself, that way you know it has been done!

Elite now gone.  Bought an X-Type 4x4.  If there had been an Omega 4x4 I would have bought that instead.  We really liked the Omega, but I wanted 4x4.
