Which way do the V6cats mate to the exhaust pipes?
« on: 08 September 2010, 19:25:28 »

This may rate as the most bizarre question ever asked!

Skip this bit if short of time. Just after I landed in Spain I had a noisy  exhaust problem. Trolled round a lot of exhaust places. None could help as it was a rare V6. There is a man over the road who will chop the mating ends off your pipes and weld a tube on with slots and put U clamps on. Did this and it improved things but it aint right and never has been. Each MOT the man turns his nose up. I am going to go back to the guy in malaga and get him to weld the pipe ends I have back on in situ on his vehicle hoist. I realise that any subsequent replacement part will be unlikely to fit but the subsequent exhaust system (cat back) is good for a few more years yet.

Question1 . I have two pairs of pipe end offcuts. Does the rounded end  one go back on the cats and the flared one go on the end of the centre sections? Also how important is the condition for a good seal.  The rounded ones have a fair amount of surface rust .

Question 2 Can anyone provide me with a reference point to get them fairly accurately back in position e.g. 10 inches from inside of bend on centre section ?

Flared end is the exhaust and the domed end is the cat   :y
