Problem starting when warm
« on: 27 September 2010, 22:11:44 »

Hi guys & Gals, I'm new to the site and need your help. A very good friend of mine has bought a 53 Plate Omega 2.2 DTi that starts fine cold but won't start or really struggles to start when warm. It looks to of had a manual primer pump fitted and it's also had the crank sensor done to no avail. It's been to Vauxhall who can't find anything wrong and no fault codes. Really hope someone can help me with this problem .

Hi I had similar problems to this over many years and eventually fixed it. Car would start fine from cold, and re start easilly when warm, but when left after being warm, say for 4 hours on a autumn day it would crank excessivly before starting. Also noticed that the glow plug lamp on the dash would operate as expected  when cold, but not " flash on then imeadiatly off" when the engine/ air temperature was warmer. It appears that they lose their accurate  control abilities for "medium" temperatutes as they age.

Glow plug control module at the bottom of the triangular fuse box on right hand side of engine bay. Easy to change and about £40.00 from Vauxhall. Part was in stock by Vauxhall and they stated it is a common fitment across many diesels.

Interesting, I know of at least two 2.2dti's that simply refused to start,no codes, all the obvious checked, new crank sensor fitted out pf desperation, not a peep, both very high mileage, if left long enough would it eventually fail as such?

And is it worth a guide maybe? We don't have much on the dti.....  :(

Yes It probably is worth a guide. If I add in my other experiences with glow plug problems such as eml light comes on 10 seconds after starting, car sounds like a tractor then eml goes out one mile up the road and everything is fine until cold start tomorrow. Code check shows 5v reference circuit number 2 ( Helpful eh!)

I will try to put something together over the next week or so. What is the process to get it on the site?  I guess there is a guide to publishing a guide somewhere?

Regarding eventual failure, I had this problem for at least 3 years before fixing it last month! The symptoms were unchanged through this time.

Post it in the test zone, and mods will move it when checked. HTH  :y
