Steeringwheel sticking
« on: 07 October 2010, 21:35:26 »

Its basicley what it says in the title

At slow speed, the steering kind of stops working, it sticks in the same place for about 5 seconds, then kicks back into action if you keep the preasure on it

Anyone with any info would be great

Cheers Stevie

suspect either a strut top bush, worn power steering pump (or dodgy fluid) or a pipe being restricted by debris in the fluid.

change fluid first  :y

Sticks, as in stays in one place and you cant move it, or gets heavy for a few seconds?

Check Power Steering Fluid as a starter.  Make sure it is a nice red colour but clear, like strawberry juice.  If it is murky, or dirty looking that could be a indication of a fault.

Still, without knowing this, a diagnosis is not easy.

It sticks in the same place, when it lets go you can hear and feel like a clicking sound from the wheel, it only really happens when i'm pulling out from parked cars on my street in the morning, touch wood it never happens on the main roads to cause any cause for concern

For your safety, and the safety of others, you really shouldnt drive this car until the fault has been rectified.  Where abouts in the South West are you?  I'm from Bristol and would be happy to take a look if you arent too far away.  I travel across the South West with my job on a daily basis (almost) so, unless you are in deepest darkest Cornwall, I may pass close by very soon.  :y

Somewhere on the forum is a thread about the indicator release lever thingy breaking and jamming... sounds like this might be your problem ??? Noise and "fixed" position of the jam is making me think along those lines ...

EDIT ....  here's one

EDIT 2.....

This is the one I was thinking of .. sounds very similar to yours ... read the whole thread .. might help
