steering pulling to the left
« on: 17 October 2010, 16:09:29 »

Hello, in the last 3 months or so i have replaced front discs and pads, w/bones, d/links, tie rods and rear donut bushes. Then I had the tracking done (WIM too far away from me, not gone yet). The car was driving great, in a staright line, no wandering, no pulling on braking.

Anyway while going slow (15-20mph) behind a tractor on country road the front left wheel hit a bad pot hole (couldn't see due to manure everywere). 5 mins later had to brake hard from 50-60 ish to 15 mph due to animal in the road, and the car noticeably pulled to the left, not good.

Ever since I have to correct the car as it aims for the left if you don't adjust the steering wheel, it's not too bad, I can live with it but it's getting on my nerves as it was brilliant before.

Does any one know what the problem is please? I haven't had a look yet.

Also, may be unrelated, but the power steering seems a little heavier which is also a horrible little niggle that's annoying me now. It's got new fluid, but crappy factor stuff. Is this unrelated and should I get some proper VX stuff? Thanks!

Clearly something shifted since hitting the pot hole. Obviosly question is what? Could be camber slipped, wishbone bush failed, or it's affected the toe setting.

Given your getting a pull to the left on that side under braking I suspect a failed wishbone front bush allowing toe out under load.

What make wishbones fitted?

a cheapo set off ebay! They've only had 1500 miles maximum of easy driving. Surely the can't fail in that distance? It was literally like a switch, fine before, not after.

Well the front tyres are wearing down more so on the inside edges, by sight i can see the camber is out, they lean in at the top alot more than they do on the mv6. I haven't got round to getting it wimmed, the nearest one to me is Mansfield i think.

Is the toe setting done in conjunction with tracking? Thanks
