if you buy new approx£50 but i would fit a good s/h one. the 1-2  solenoid is the same and typically has less use. the one you are after is the one nearest the propshaft :y

I do tend to keep a lot of help topics on an external drive, so I'll try searching for it tomorow, and post it up, or the link to it if I can find it.

Unless of course someone else beats me to it  ::)  :y

right. i have now reset the gear selector switch as instructed in thread. when i pull away it gets to 2nd gear then revvs up and doesnt go into 3rd unless i push the ac pedal hard, then the same when i need to get into the next gear. before i cleaned the 2 sumps all gears were working ok but was a small thud into 3rd, but now is definatly worse since i did a fluid change. there is definatly not enough fluid in there as i could only get 5 litres in after draining about 7 litres out. and if i try to get anymore in it just comes out. i didnt notice anything in the sumps except thick sludge and no broken washers. any ideas?

Automatic transmission (approximate):
From dry . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 8.4 litres
After removing main sump . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 4.4 litres.

Just a thought, but when you did a fluid change, did you also clean / replace the transmission filter ?.  :-?

yes i did and the gaskets. the fluid was so brown and old and in the bottom of the sumps was quite thick so possibly it has never been done before as the gaskets were welded to the gearbox and i had a hell of a job scrapping them off. where would i find the solenoid or solenoids, what does it look like and what do i need to do to change??
Sump off jobbie. Have a read of this and note "Figure 2" part #307 is the 2-3 and part # 303 is the 1-2, 3-4 http://images.omegaowners.com/downloads/Autobox_Docs/4L30E_Article.pdf

Hi Rich,

I've had a look for the photo of the gearbox without the filter cover (where switches are), along with the info, but unfortunately I can't find it  :-/ ?.
Mind you, to be honest the info that Rob G has posted for you is a lot more detailed and informed, so hoping that's enough pic's to help you out  :-? ?.

Richie, you say that when you changed the fluid you ran the engine until warm etc. I may be reading it wrong, but running the engine until warm wont achieve anything. You need to drive the car until the ATF is warm. Personally before buying a solenoid I would re-check the ATF   level making sure you follow the correct procedure carefully - Atf up to temp. move the gearshift slowly through all positions a few times , car  level at time of checking etc. :y

i did that when i topped it up, went for a drive, 8 miles and then checked the level again. was no change. i know i'm a bit confusing but i did it to the thread. and even checked i put the selector switch on right.
