cheers guys for the info,still have not got around to getting water leak at front of engine investigated.no time,gas engineer working in central London.STRESS!!!Anyway next question,i notice from front of engine what sounds like worn bearing noise on tick over,it can also be heard inside car with every thing off sitting at the lights.Am i wrong in thinking cam belt tensioners make a high pitched whining when theyre about to give up.. MV6 3000 MAMUAL 2000 FACE LIFT..

I would'nt even wait for a reply to that John. If you suspect the bearing on the tensioner I would be getting it checked. You know what happens if that goes.

Could be water pump :-/

I wouldn't dream of running it if there is a chance of it throwing a belt :(

As per my PM John.   I'm sure I know the car.
Equally sure that he had the cambelt changed a short while ago. Check with Marshalls of Ipswich with your reg number to see what they did...I was sure that's who he sent it to.

I would bet it's wasser pumpen kaput as well. Whether they changed it or not OR whoever did change it, if it was a non-vx pump it may well have failed VERY early. I had two brand new NON VX water pumps go bad within a couple of days. The water leak from which isn't always obvious. Since I insisted on a VX pump, never had the problem again. If you're using some bright coloured coolant, you should see signs of it at the front decorating itself around the pump.
