John, my Omega chucks out 'steam' all the time it is running regardless of the engine temperature, they ALL do mate! You have a lot of exhaust pipe between front & back & the lump generates a lot of water vapour on the journey through the pipes. If you want a reasonably definate head gasket diagnosis then remove the plugs one at a time when the engine has been stood overnight & is cold. dip a piece of rope, pipecleaner, stick with a cotton bud tied to it, anything that will show wetness if it is there in the bore. The only thing to cause wetness in a cylinder bore after it has stood overnight is water, so you should have a fairly conclusive diagnosis? HTH  :y

Water is a by-product of the combustion process. In cold temps, it condenses quicker, making it seem worse.

A water pump isn't difficult to do, no special tools required.  :y

Which means if you come across someone who says it's "too complicated", RUN. ;D

As mentioned John, I'm sure you're worrying unnecessarily.  My mechanic changed the water pump on my V6 within the hour.."Simple job on these" was his comment.
