Engine oil level sensor location
« on: 05 November 2010, 05:39:23 »

X25XE - I am starting to see the CHECK (Oil Level) warning occassionally but when I check the engine oil it is barely below the full mark. Could it be a faulty sensor and if so where is the engine oil level sensor located.
It is definitely not the gearbox warning either, I have already checked that.
Not much hair left to pull out either!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

it's in the sump, but you can get to the connector without having to take the sump off.

the connector is located on top of the sump right-hand "wing", under the alternator, probably best getting to it from underneath. The connector is white and should respond to a good dousing in WD-40.

other than that, the actual sensor is screwed to the lower sump pressing, accessible by removing the pressing from underneath - probably a good idea anyway to give it a clean and to check that the oil pump pick-up strainer isn't blocked.

Just don't think that taking the lower sump cover off is an alternative to locating the connector, as you have to get the connector undone to get the sump off.

sometimes, the wire clip around the connector ca become stuck, whereby you can take the clip off the connector first. Don't just rive at it - 'cos you'll break it.

no need to wait - I'll personally guarantee that you'll get absolutely covered in oil no matter when you do it  ::)
