Getting spares
« on: 08 November 2010, 14:48:00 »

In another context and what may be of interest to OOFers, particularly given the recent "rip me off" post , is what is happeneing with car parts in Poland via the Polish auction site:
http://allegro.pl/

I came across this purely from the Phaeton forum where they have picked up that in Germany, UK etc no-one can be a**ed to repair things from recovered and perfectly serviceable parts. So accident damaged Phaetons, Omegas etc end up in Poland where there is a desire to go that extra yard to extract value from other peoples cast offs.

Just two examples - 2004 air suspension units no longer manufactured - if you go to a German or UK dealer it is a new set of air units and controller - cost £4000 +. In Poland they are sourcing replacements for the exact 2004 units from "scrapped" models at £300 or less.

So I asked my Polish collegaue to look up AR35 gearbox and he advises £200 for a "tested" box and the seller advises that his source is a vehicle parts distributor in UK.

There are some Polish members of this forum who come on so maybe they can comment on the effectiveness of allegro in terms of a good source for parts
