Climate Control ?????
« on: 14 October 2010, 21:24:41 »

No matter what i do i cant seem to get hot air out of the car.  I changed the faulty thermostat and as far as im aware no air locks.  When left standing and the engine fan comes on i get warm air but when running on a motorway the temp sits at 85.  Also when i do get warm air i only get it on the the 2 front centre vents.  Both side ones blow cold/cool air as does the rear vents. the windscreen blows air warmer than my cold vents but cooler than the warm ones.  Iv reset the unit but otherwise drawn a blank.  Any ideas what could be wrong or is there an easy fix? Or could i rearrange some pipes so only hot water is being fed to the cabin through the winter.  All suggestions and tips accepted and all help is as always greatly appreciated

Long shot..... is your outside temperature sensor working okay? When mine packed up, could hardly get any warm air out of the vents as the climate ECU figured it was 55 degrees outside (displayed on the MID) when it was really -1, so why would I need any hot air in the car!.... might be barking up the wrong tree, but if all else is well, just a thought  :y

i thought this before but changed the sensor as it was telling me it was -50 in the middle of summer.  I bugger my display up by putting blue led into it now it wont illuminate but checked this last week by shining a torch through the bulb holes and it was displaying the correct temp. It was doing this only warm air thing in the summer when i bought it but hasnt bothered me up until now

After taking the vacuum hose from the HBV with no results i finally got round to flushing my heater matrix today. Not as easy as it looked in the how to as things are a little different on the 2.0 but i managed to get it done eventually, seeing the results it was no wonder i was only getting warm air for 30 seconds.  I forgot what i nice warm car felt like  :y

Have you tried manual setting rather than auto, auto seems to use the center vents, well mine does anyway.... :-/ :-/

Im loving my new found heat after a lot of work and losing all my coolant as i didnt replace the pipes properly, but just 1 more question..... Any ideas as to why everything blows scorching hot air except the rear centre vents.  The only time they have blown warm air was the middle of summer?  Any help gratefully received or is it not really worth worrying about??? Thanks everyone

The control rod arm at the front of & under the centre console has probably come off the solenoid.

Removing the centre console-
