Do these become porous?  2.2L  My mechanic has suggested that I may well need a replacement sump next oil change, and in the meantime to keep an eye out for oil leaks....

Is it leaking? Mines on 151k, no issues, same story with father T's thats on 110k, although his sump is tad rusty, no sign of any leaks.

I assume it's steel? Steel sumps (in general might rust - like a Smart's  :-?) but they don't become porous, an ally pan might though.  ;)

How well do you know & trust your mechanic?

Is it possible that 'sump plug abuse' has occurred and that the plug might not come out for the next oil change? :-X
