Water Pumps (Again)

Just gor a quote off the local garage to fir me a water pump.

They quote me 2.5 hours labour to do it.  £120 inc vat.


Surely thats seems OTT

What tools do I need?

Only need the basic Omega tools to do it. Socket set including some TORX sockets. Spanners, pliers for the hose clips. That's about it IIRC.

5 litres of antifreeze to refill it.

Worth checking the state of the aux. belt and tensioner and replacing if worn. If reusing, prise the seal away from the aux. tensioner bearing and pack it with a little grease as they do tend to dry out.

You'll need to remove the multiram ducting and SAI pipework, PAS, Crank and water pump pullies, aux. belt tensioner and cam belt cover to get access.

AND ensure it's a VX wasser pumpen only.

Most clones will NOT last, I got through two non VX pumps inside 4 weeks before I insisted the mechanic used a genuine VX one.  Never had a problem since.

I've never had any problems with the ones supplied by buypartsby and i've had quite a few of them ;)

I use FirstLine pumps from my local factors. At least they have metal impellers unlike a majority of the Vx ones I've seen fail for exactly that reason.
